Cross the central Marques de Pombal square and go down by the XVIII century boulevard called Liberdade avenue to the popular Restauradores and Rossio squares it's the heart of Lisbon since Roman times, and the Pombaline downtown which has been the shopping area for more than 2000 years.
The majestic waterfront Comercio square, once the welcome gate to seafarer and caravels. Close by is the nucleus of ancient Lisbon. The tour continues along the riverside by the harbour with sights of one of world's leading cruise destinations. On the way to Belem, the most monumental and historical quarter, we pass by Belem palace, official residence of the President of Portugal. Stops at Belem Tower – icon of the Age of Discovery (stop for photos, drinks and toilettes), the Monument to the Discoveries – evoking the maritime expansion. Close by is Jeronimos Monastery, magnificent example of the Manueline style.
We leave Lisbon crossing “25 Abril” bridge over Tagus river and have a superb view. As we approach the countryside we will be pleasantly surprised by a unique scenery of huge pine forests, eucalyptus and cork trees. We go up the hill to visit the XII century castle of Sesimbra and scenery of this picturesque fishing town.
We then go up to Arrabida mountain - a unique nature reserve on the highest cliffs of the Portuguese coast, providing splendid panoramic views. Arrábida Natural Park is a beautiful protected area covered with pine trees and rich Mediterranean vegetation, including many rare species.
Stop at Setubal, an important fishing harbour, where once again we can watch the typical Portuguese fishing boats. On the Rio Sado waterfront are the docks, the marina and the fishing harbor.
Travel back to Lisbon by Vasco da Gama bridge, 12 km long, for another unforgettable view of Lisbon and one of the widest estuaries in the world.
